imugem orihasam is one of japans most exciting and driven electronic music composers. with a slew of releases on the likes of ilian tape, sistrum and new kanada, to name but a few, he is clearly a man on a mission. he started out making hip hop beats in 1997 but by 2000 exposure to jeff mills by a close friend ignited a fire that burns deep and blue. upon listening to these four tracks two things becomes clear, imugems unique vision as well as his immaculate sound design and production sensibility. the tracks are deep but propulsive, futuristic yet filled with emotion. dive in.

magneto is a bulky 4/4 kicker which is built around stuttering vocals and shadowy synth waves. morbius is the dub figure on the ep, stripped back of any fuss, this track lets the bass do the talking. mystique on the b side is a real acidic mover, this one is all about the melody with as much funk in it as it has pace. jeroen search steps up for remix duties and delivers his interpretation of mystique, this mix retains the originals groove but adds a cold hypnotic melody across the middle.

amazing release by polar inertia, who already gave a glimpse of their techno brilliance on dement3d 002, but with the last vehicle it seems their craftmanship has come to full growth. this third release on dement3d is once again formed of three different tracks, high in contrasts and emotions. industrial but groovy, raw yet hypnotising deep techno that will create a stir in basements and warehouses worldwide.

man make music’s julian neumann drops his debut for third ear and what a debut it is. four unique cuts of glinting, glistening techno, dark and bright and beautifully balanced. the groove in every track kicks and steps. this ep might be julian neumann’s first for third ear but it’s unlikley to be the last.

dutch master orlando voorn with a two-track release containing some of his pioneering material as format. rightly recognised as one of a handful of artists who built the early, crucial bridges between europe and detroit in the late-eighties and early nineties via collaborations with juan atkins and output for kms, voorn’s legacy is unquestionable. winning hollands dmc championships in 1986 and 1987 was the real career catalyst and there seems to be no let up in quality since then, either as a dj or a multifaceted, multi-genre producer. these two tracks are produced in 1993 and still didnt loose their magic!damn right and jam session have that the raw charm, edge and vibe sounds so current. energetic, melodic and broken, both tracks touch on a myriad of styles but what shines through is how modern electronic styles can be traced back to this sort of fantastic, unique output. format remastered could be sitting snuggly alongside modern house, techno, uk garage, uk funky and many more contemporary styles. this is a rare chance to grab beautifully treated versions of classic voorn material.

straying away from their more familiar cutting-edge drum & bass landscape, im:ltd are taking to pastures new with their latest offspring from the somewhat uninhibited and off-kilter quentin hiatus. with a deep sun-dappled atmosphere, mixing old-school house vibes and snappy hooks with a dirty south laidback feel, the different strokes ep might be another mellow and melodic release but its not going to blend into the background. showing a real sense of movement and progression, this ep surely deserves a full play through as each track unravels in its own time, and fits together in order like an audio jigsaw puzzle.

a few years ago i took a journey to europe searching for a new sound. people along the journey had been telling me about this guy from tropea, italy called dj steve (named after his favorite musician, stevie wonder).
he is a butcher there by day, but at night he is the dj at a club called casablanca. i made my way to this tiny town in the south of italy and found dj steve. his 12 hour dj sets opened my eyes. this guy was the real deal. he was playing dubplates, vinyl, cassettes, and reel-to-reels. all special edits he had done over the years. i couldnt believe what i was hearing.

there must be something in the water of the canary island seas. something that turns quiet kids into tasteful buttoned-up hooligan experts in house music. >luxemburgo< is the huge vicario musique choon everyone was waiting for. a groovy sure shot which combines commanding ferocity and a delicate class in a way reminiscent of michael j collins early work, but also hints at alex & isaacs passion for house and mysterious funky vocals- almost ambient melodies a la lone, carried by a strong rhythm built on noble drums, unraveling the most >hands in the air< breakdown since the invention of putting your hands in the air.

razor sharp futuristic textures from the bristol based producer, dropping one of his deadliest eps to date. stratagalastico is an absolute bomb of machine-made dynamite, dark and deadly for those who like to lurk in the shadows. creepy shenanigans are most certainly the order of the day, but with that said, marco ends the ep with a deep, melodic piece titled bugs in the virus, a transcendent composition that enriches the stratagalastico experience and completes the package. killer!

francisco allendes, a classic violinist with a synth rock background, one of the most interesting electronic music artists from chile, already released on ghostly, cadenza and several other labels. italian born dj, producer and ibiza resident paola poletto, is not only the first female dj to ever perform at pacha - she is also a graduated sound engineer. together francisco and paola are not only the nicest couple of dance music, but as a producer team they are also about to leave a deep mark on the musical landscape. their desolat debut is a 4 track ep with their unique view on house music, full of optimism, fun and sundrenched grooves. enjoy!

romes egisto sopor has been making little waves with his releases for quite a while now. since we have known him he has released a cdr album on legowelts strange life records and put a cassette out on the much admired 100% silk label, both under the name polysick. as theawayteam he has released a dvd >relax & sleep< and a cd >star kinship< on japanese label moamoo. he is also one half of the low key video unit aavv, whose work has graced many of the important releases of new lofi electronic movement.
well, here is his first album proper >digital native<, 15 tracks of glowing, nocturnal, analogue grace that hark back to acid house and early techno, but with a mood and intent that seems to be designed for watching images dance on closed eyelids. it is no surprise that his work as a video artist resonates so strongly with the music he makes.

tony ollivierras issued a generous number of singles and eps under the ibex moniker on rushhour, planet e, yore, and his own ibex music, and now follows up his 2010 yore release, meltdown, with absolution, though this time under his birth name. no matter: ollivierras music sounds great, whether issued under his real name or an alias, and absolution is no exception. the infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the tracks multi-layered splendour. a jazzier dimension rises to the surface of quick release when the tunes churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads.phase down opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that ollivierras naturally funky side cant help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere.

unusually for a record (for me,at least), constants collects tracks written in four very different moments in time: some are recent - so recent ive only had the opportunity to play them out just a handful of times - while others are over one year old. i really wish the story behind this ep would be a bit more interesting so this text could completely blow your mind but im afraid there were no dragons, no sex, no drugs and definitely no rock n roll involved. all four were mostly produced by me while sipping coffee and wearing boxer shorts in front of a computer. i could somehow try to describe the music on here but it would probably take less for you to give it a listen. however, if you happen to be one of the humans that prefer reading about music. anyway, im really happy to see these finally out, especially on a label i have always looked up to like vakant. i really used to think smoke, kaden and ozer were aliens at some hopefully you will enjoy this music as much as i loved writing and playing it out.
